Public Transport in Jabalpur consists of many modes which include:
- manually driven pedal rikshaws
- e-rickshaws
- auto rickshaws
- mini vans
- small buses
- large buses
- taxis
All the above are for commutation through road.
Metro Bus services and other forms of transport are regulated by Jabalpur City Transport Services and governed by District administration and other agencies like Municipal Corporation, Regional Transport Office and Traffic Police.
If managed properly, Public Transport is agreeably the best form of commutation anywhere in the world, specially in urban settlements. It is also economical and eco-friendly.
There is also a narrow gauge railway line which connects Jabalpur and localities in nearby districts. Being a Zonal headquarters of Indian Railways, the difficult geographical conditions and also the cost and means available, Railways are preferred mode of travel for long distances as compared to road in many cases.
Apart from Government supported facilities like from Tourism Department, there are many private operators who offer taxis and bus services. A city based metro rail service, similar to those in metro cities, is proposed for Jabalpur.
Air Travel is mostly limited to private Chartered flights which are very expensive and some regular flights from operators connecting to major cities are available.
